Carol Sanna: ArtistCarol Sanna is an artist who delves into her subject until its essence and soul is disclosed. Patterns of light and shadow dance across the palate of her mind.
An intrepid traveler, she has gone to great lengths to capture her images, whether driving up a mountain through a river bed, or cross-country skiing to a remote location. However, many times she has found the most intriguing shots by simply turning around and seeing in a different perspective; her surroundings start to “speak to her.” Sanna uses the techniques of her art to produce the best image. As a disciplined artist she uses filters, lens, darkroom technique and the freshest chemicals and paper to create a lasting piece. For her, capturing the perfect shot is only half the joy photography. “The tranquility and solitude of working in the darkroom soothes my soul,” she tells us. “Work done in the darkroom completes the creative process.” Her finished prints are matted with the same emphasis on permanence. Only acid-free materials are used. She employs a technique called “floating mount” which does not bring the print in contact with adhesive material. Sanna calls her work: Patterns in Nature. Tees, leaves, sand, water, clouds, mountains, canyons, deserts, beaches, reflections, rocks, fog, rain, snow, shadows, all display movement of patterns. Of those things related to humans, she has images of machines, structures, fence, stairs, train tracks, weathering buildings, and factories. She has showings in galleries, restaurants, furniture stores, and art catalogs. She has written a training manual which she uses to teach classes in photography and darkroom technique. |
